HIGHLIGHTS:Jeep built the 1990 Cherokee with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. All models had a standard manual transmission. Jeep offered an automatic transmission as an optional feature.
SPECIFICATIONS:
The base model had a 2.5-liter, in-line, four-cylinder engine with 121 horsepower and 141 foot-pounds of torque. The remaining trim models sported a 4.0-liter, in-line six-cylinder engine with 177 horsepower and 224 foot-pounds of torque.
The vehicle had a fuel capacity of 20.2 gallons. The 1990 Cherokee was rated at between 16 and 18 mpg city, and between 20 and 24 mpg highway, depending on engine and transmission.
DESIGN:
- Exterior and Options:# The 1990 Jeep Cherokee came in several trim styles. These included base, Pioneer, Sport, Laredo and Limited. All trim levels had a wheelbase of 101.4 inches, width of 70.5 inches and length of 165.3 inches. Exterior options included steel wheels, a roof rack and specialized factory paint. Buyers could add a trailer hitch, a camper and towing package, four-wheel ABS system or a sun roof.
- Interior and Options:# The 1990 Jeep Cherokee seated five people. The Cherokee provided front headroom of 38.3 inches, front legroom of 41.1 inches and rear leg room of 35.3 inches. Interior options included privacy glass, a tilt steering wheel and a premium stereo system.
